and his orchid nursery in Madagascar? I haven't heard his name in several years, although his many Ang photos are still all around on the web.

He's still active on flickr, although most of the photos he uploads now are geckos! I think someone (Jacob?) was telling me that he was having difficulty getting things out of the country.

Olaf is alive and well, keeping busy with his commercial endeavours in Madagascar. You can find his flickr here, where he posts photos of wonderful orchids and other organisms. He doesn't export any Orchidaceae, even seeds due to regulations. He keeps a very busy schedule and internet is slow and expensive to use for him.

    Thanks, Calvin and Jacob.
After Bert Pressman died in 2006, I was hoping that Olaf Pronk would be set up to ship Madagascar orchids so I could continue to get my Ang fix each year. I'm sorry to hear that he encountered restrictions preventing him from doing so.

I just noticed this old posts that concern me. I am alive and kicking, fully licensed to export orchids and with a for African standards very modern nursery. We have had some set backs. I trusted a guy in Thailand that stole many of my flasks, found a new partner in Thailand (Andy of Puph.) but things are slow so far. We had a cyclone in 2012 destroy a large part of my shadehouses and orchid reference collection but I am working on making available in the near future both flasks and mature plants of many never ciltivated before Madagascar orchid species. Join me on Facebook where I will post future updates. Thanks for not forgetting me! Olaf Pronk, Laurette EURL, Antananarivo, Madagascar

Very sad news. He was always very generous with information and contributed so much in many areas.

It is not a bubonic plague, but a pneumonial plague...so what is called pneumonia by the authorities is in fact the plague...:(

Thank you Gilles for that information. Here is a link to an article by Vox that explains it well.
