It seems we have a lot of new members from Afghanistan lately. I certainly don't know there is such a big orchid community in that country. It would be interesting to hear from those members. Since almost all of them are quite young(with DOB) and have English names, so I guess they know some English..., Welcome to the forum and hope you will post photos and participate in this forum.

While I was 90% speculative about how to read the tone of this, I figured there had to be some Himalayan overflow apart from Orchis, Epiactis, etc. I looked quite a bit last night trying to find things maybe from the Swat Valley or other areas in Afghanistan that might be suitable for orchids. No luck really but I did satiate any pictorial interest I had for Afghan things last night. Band I-Amir didn't fit with my old preconceptions of Afghanistan.

Tom, I suppose I should know this but I don't. Where do you go to see this information?

Interesting. I do hope our new members will post on threads or start some. I would love to hear their perspectives as well!

The imagination can't help but conjure the posibility of some presumably nefarious plot based on the alphabetic order of the countries. The lack of new members from Albania, American Samoa and Andorra is too stark to be ignored.

If you go to who has visited in the last 24 hours and click on names you don't recognize, you'll see there is a growing contingent from Afghanistan. So let me add my welcome to Tom's.

Many many years ago, In East Europe was very popular drink named "salep". It was made from some terrestrial orchid tubers. Nowadays you can drink it in Turkey and Albania apropos. They said that this is some kind of aphrodisiac - you know - the local legends. My English is at survival level :)
I'm not sure that in Afghanistan exists orchid growers . They grow commercial a very different species . And computers are rarity for people.
But may be I'm wrong .

What with IP-spoofing and the level of cyber-spying going on these days, it would not surprize me a bit if they weren't just investigative hacking attempts.

lila, your English is quite good. I continue to be impressed by the level of English skills demonstrated by residents of Eastern Europe and SE Asia. You are doing great.

We have new members daily from Afghanistan. It looks very suspicious now...
Since they have never posted anything here, I wonder if they are real members of the forum. and why this happens? any explanation?

Don't forget there is an occupying US army in Afghanistan Tom and those people, unlike the vast majority of Afghans have some access to computers and the internet, so I guess that in between deployment mission, they are so bored stiff that they might actually log on here :D . My guess is Playboy and other websites of interest have been censured... After all, orchids flowers can have some very sensual shapes!

LOL! oisifml, how the hell your brain came up with that one? Interesting yet in a strange way.
Now I wonder why I have not seen this happen at other forums.

Are you a f*cking moron or something? What I am doing at this hour is not your god-damn business. and I am not checking on someone's "IP's" so you called. Member's info is there for other members to view/know a little bit each other. If you have problem with it, don't put anything in your profile.
If you still can't think this through, then you need to rewire your brain. WTF!!!!!

Oh-oh, the Afghanitan mysterious members monitoring thread is on the verge of mission creep.

Hey Marni, glad you like Ricardo's comment. You know damn well what is going on here. LOL! What a bunch of spike's followers! Got more mission, Ricardo?

Hey, Brent, I will like you to delete my account and all my photos here. I will leave here peace and quiet as you might want me to do that long time ago anyway. It will be all up to you to explain the situation here.

I'm not sure what you think is going on with the "Afghan members", but my understanding is that they are "more than likely just spam robots. They are not real people. They are being prevented from posting from our anti-spam measures. They are also not from Afghanistan either, that is just the default country that they use when registering."

I truly don't know what you think this is about, but would really like to hear your perspective? And yes, I did like Ricardo's post. He brings a touch of lightness and humor to issues that I really appreciate.

I would be sorry to see you leave as you have a lot to contribute to the forum and I think you also benefit by being here.
