Am looking for hybrids of Central American species of the sort that both Marni Turkel and Fred Clark have offered in recent years. Fred, just now, said that he has more in the pipes, but not until SPRING 2022, which is a bit of a stretch, who knows where we'll all be by then.....?

So, am looking to BUY or possible TRADE something (but have limited items for that) for nice healthy divisions of any such hybrids you might have, either from the above premo hybridizers, or anyone else. Graham of Lehua ditched his Lycaste line a number of years ago, and is almost exclusively a Paph guy these days.....

Contact me here or, better yet, directly, at [email protected] or 904 292 4806. If I don't answer the phone, it means I'm either A) not home, or B) outside with the plants, chickens, and other assorted wildlife.......no answering machine or voice mail, very, very "old fashioned" here.....

I bought 3 lycaste skinneri hybrids from Lauris Rose a few weeks ago, after James told me that he didn't have any more. She went out to one of their greenhouses and hustled up these three, and CALLED me personally about buying them. James had simply said, "We don't have any of those anymore!" By the way, according to Lauris, they are going out of business in the coming year, which I also bounced off of James. He says business is ruined, he's 74 and has health issues, time to hang it up.....and another one bites the dust! Sad!

That was their prediction as soon as the SB show was shut down in March. If only I had an extra 2 million I would invest in it in hopes of someday being a thousandaire.

Yes, all of the orchid nurseries and shows are in danger of going away. I was thinking about this last night. There are literally no outlets for thousands of crosses of orchids of all kinds. Some of the crosses may already be lost, or they exist only in someone's greenhouse or on a back porch somewhere, but if a person is old, not connected with a local orchid society, etc, no one would ever know about any of this. We are literally going to lose the equivalent of centuries of work done by hundreds of people because there will be no places left to conserve, grow, or develop it. The world is falling apart, and fairly rapidly at that.

Lauris’ drive and Jim’s will is not a combination to be trifled with. We’ll see how the 2021 Platycerium market looks...

Yes, they already seem to be pivoting to sales of different plants. Platycerium are big money here in Florida, and around here they grow into specimens that literally weigh a hundred pounds or more and require chains to suspend them from trees, etc. I had one years ago that I put on a baby's booster seat and it overgrew the whole thing. Later, I sold it to a neighbor, who I believe still has it in his yard and it is probably 2.5-3 feet across. And that's a SMALL one! lol!
