I got J&L's Mediocalar versteegii which blooms with a red body and yellow fringe. Have another one which blooms with a green fringe but do not have one which blooms with the more common white fringe. Would be interested in trading for a piece of such a plant.

Learned a little since digging around on that one:

Mediocalar versteegii var versteegii has a yellow rim.
Mediocalar versteegii var vulcanicum has a white rim.
Mediocalar versteegii var intermedium has a green rim
Mediocalar versteegii var amphigenium, I cannot find a picture nor a description.
All versteegii have a red body.

Mediocalar paradoxum red body / green rim, often 2 flowers
Mediocalar uniflorum red body / green rim.
Mediocalar bifolium red body / white rim.
Mediocalar aganthodoensis red body / green rim.

Then there are a few with orange bodies and one with a yellow body.

Nick, I can't help you with your 'want', in fact I would like some of these too. However, I do appreciate the summary of the varieties and species. Very helpful.

Talked to Andy, he has a Mediocalar versteegii with the white fringe. He does not have it ID'd with the varietal name but insists it has the white color. Good enough, he'll bring it to Santa Barbara this weekend.

I picked up a white/red one from Asuka Orchids at POE. I believe he does mail order.
