I was reorganizing and misting this morning when I noticed something on my Vanilla Planifolia. I've been trying to bloom one and make vanilla for 4-5 yrs! There are more pics but I could only upload 5. The plant had spikes all over it! Any suggestions on websites to help with guides to flower pollination, pod curing, etc. Pictures would be helpful. I'll document my successes and failures.

Congrats Clif! It's not the easiest plant to flower.

Very cool! Good luck with the pollination. How large is the plant?

Disaster struck. Bloom rot. Too much misting I think. Others are almost blooming. I'll keep you posted.

I have some vanilla 'beans'. About a 10-20% successful pollination rate. I think I was squeezing the flowers too hard when i was pollinating them. Much better success rate when I was gentler. Pics to follow. Now for the next step. Growing/curing the 'beans'. What a complicated process.

    Vanilla spike update

Have several 'beans'. I was sqeezing the flower too hard when I was pollinating the flowers initially. Had better success with later pollination.
