my understanding is with a mature plant you get the top off [middle of the plant] leaving healthy roots on top and bottom pieces. with luck the bottom piece will keep growing. i dont know if it would be new leafs from the center of the stem or a keiki. or you can 'score' the stem put on some growth hormones and get a keiki started on the side.

I had seven foot tall plant. Cut off the top two feet as it has heaps of roots fron top to bottom and fully leafed. It has three keikis at the top now. I have been thinking about cutting the rest in the middle to see if if the bottom will keiki too. The first keikis do not have roots of their own yet. Should I wait till they have their own roots?
