Three spikes on Vanda coerulea 'Stony Point'. I grow this with 50F minimum winter nights in Cattleya light that is quite bright until mid-day. It gets watered every day with dilute fertilizer. The natural spread of a flower is 4.5". It has been blooming 4 or 5 times a year. It makes me happy every time it blooms! This came from Manote of Tropical Exotique.

Marni. A 'true blue' orchid. Beautiful! Right now, none of my many vandas are blooming and there are no spikes or buds. Yet all the plants are extremely healthy. Any ideas? Maybe it is just because of my Thai climate at this point in time.

Are vandas blooming for other growers? I don't grow enough about them to know if there is a "season".

Most Vanda tend to bloom after a period with cooler nights. Then we have those that bloom when the days are getting longer (spring) or shorter (fall). Once you are in a period of constant hot temperatures and minor variations in day length the Vandas grow a lot but not much more will be happening.

Gorgeous plant. I had one of a very similar color, got it from Popow Orchids and I killed it after reading it needs a dry winter rest. Sigh.
My Vanda coerulescens just finished blooming and V. mariae is in full bloom.

I keep thinking about trying a V. coerulea outside to get brighter light and slightly cooler night temperatures. But it would have to be a different clone in case it turns out to be a big mistake.

My sympathies. I killed a really big, beautiful specimen plant of Epidendrum centropetalum by listening to an expert. I was really proud of the plant. After seeing it he told me, "If you really want to grow that well, you have to give it a dry rest." It was circling the drain by the next spring. Lesson learned.

Thanks Arne. And your words do make sense. Since the beginning of April, our weather here has been consistantly very hot with little deviation. The days are always between 32C and 38C and the nights are also consistantly quite warm 28C to 32C (also very uncomfortable for me because of the extreme high humidity). And yes, the plants are growing so fast.

I also learned the hard way to take that "dry" advice with a grain of salt. Other than Catasetinae in the winter and Mediterranean terrestrials in summer, nobody at my house gets fully "dry". (Some will get reduced water but not "none") California "dry" is a whole lot drier than monsoonal "dry" at any elevation or latitude. I love it (hate humid)... but the orchids? Not so much.

I have Vanda tricolor, and they bloom nearly all the time. No season
