Not an orchid but a neat species nonetheless. This is an Ecuadorean endemic from the family Melastomataceae. Other, more familiar, plants in this family include the tropical landscape shrub Tibouchina and Rhexia, a native of pine flatwoods. I grow this one in a frog tank, so it gets constant high humidity, daily misting and warm temps.
