Trichopilia brevis 'Stony Point'

    This was formerly a Helcia, but Helcia was moved back into Trichopilia about a dozen years ago, a move supported by recent DNA studies. I have not noticed any fragrance from this one.

    So nice to see it. I used to bloom mine every year, but the last few years that's not the case. Perhaps it didn't like the slightly warmer conditions it is getting these days. I always thought it needed more warmth than I was giving it. I may need to rethink it. What is the temperature range where you are growing it.

    Well, in the heating months, the low is set about 57F and days I usually turn it up to 70F. However, it sits in the 'tunnel' with all the other trichopilias, isolated up closer to the glazing so I suspect that even though I have almost violent air movement, they are a bit cooler there. The rest of the year, the tunnel receives the input from the evap cooler first and seldom goes above 72F or so, and down to the lower 60's and sometimes 50s at night.
