Anyone want to sell some Trias cuttings ( Jon, Tom :)....I know they grow slow so this is a long shot. I am having a hard time finding anyfor sale anywhere....can't get an email back from the one place I know of. I did get one from Andy on Sat but it is not the most happy looking at this point.

Carolina Orchids usually has some different Trias around. Caveat: many people (myself included) have gotten mislabeled plants from them, so there is definitely a chance you will get something other than what you pay for. It'll almost certainly be a Trias, though, and I've always been pleased with the quality and size of their plants.

Thanks, I may try Carolina....I have been in contact with Tom and my only concern is in asking him for photos he said he does not have any. If I am paying $25 for a plant I at least want to see what I am getting....but it helps that you were happy with the quality and size of the plants you have gotten from them.

I thought Jon was going to have some for me but he seems to have disappeared....Jon, where did you go?

I'm not surprised that you couldn't get photos out of Tom, he's pretty set in his ways and I don't think those ways include digital photography of plants in or out of bloom. I suspect they'd sell a lot more plants and avoid more ID disputes if they put photos on their website but it's probably not going to happen.

I've never gotten Trias from Carolina, but when I buy other species a $25 plant is blooming size or in bloom and typically consists of 5-10 growths, occasionally less with rarer things (did get a 20ish-growth Isabelia pulchella for $20, though). Out of about 20 plants I have from them I've only lost two, both long after purchase and definitely due to my poor culture. I've never bought mailorder, always in person, so you may want to get some feedback on their shipping practices esp. in winter.

Yeah, Tom was not even open to showing me a representative photo....very blunt, No, no photos....oookkkay...hmmmm. But your recommendation helps. Thanks. If I don't hear back from Jon in the next week or so I guess I will give them a try.

I've been pleased overall but others differ with me on that. I haven't felt ripped off with the couple mis-IDs I've had, but one I knew was wrongly labeled when I bought it and the other was readily IDed as something I wanted anyway when it bloomed. I like dealing with them at shows and their greenhouse, they're nice people if a little eccentric and they have a very wide range of species orchids. The lack of pictures is annoying, though, and their email communication isn't spectacular either.

I know Jon has been travelling a lot lately over the past few months, so he may not be around his greenhouse. Also, I think it's still too cold in Colorado to ship. I don't think it's gotten out of the 40s there in a few weeks.

Try to look up the photos of those Trias on IOSPE, Tammy. If you can't find those Trias anywhere else, you might have to take a gamble on Tom Nasser, especially currently you don't own any or many of them, so the chance of getting a dublicate plant for you is very small.
His price for those Trias is average IMO.

Marlow Orchids(listed on orchid mall) also has few Trias. I bought my Trias picta from him at show years ago and he seemed like a nice guy.

    Hi Tom,

I know what the Trias all look like....I just don't like buying sight unseen....like when an ebay seller says in the listing that the plant shown is "representative" I usually pass because I want to SEE what I am getting so there are no surprises when i open the box. Thank you for the Marlow lead....I sent them email and heard back quickly and was told they would send photos....yay....I am still waiting for Jon though :) he has what I want.

You are a tough customer, aren't you? I love buying plants at show too...

Yeah, I am a pretty tough customer....I am also one of the ones here who love leaves...I buy plants for the plant and not the flower. If I love the plant and if it should never bloom for me at least I am still beyond happy. I have a few plants that had a cool flower when I bought it but when the flower passed, I realized I really can't stand looking at the plant while waiting for it to bloom again. I know, weird...so my rule is to buy them for who they are most of the time so i tend to be pretty picky about what I have in my collection. I love the Trias species...the plant is just so neat looking to me. I stare at the one I have now, look for new growth, new roots and admire it on a daily basis....hmmm, I do that with all of the terrarium orchids....except those "ugly" ones....lol. Anyway....

That is interesting, Tammy. I love foliage/unique growths too but I have never considered Trias are good looking plants. Some of them will drop the leaves easily and look really ugly after that. Good luck with your Trias hunting!

    Tom,

Well, I guess it they were to toss all the leaves they would not be as cute....I don't know why I love them so and they are such slow growers also....I guess they are one of those challenge plants that I just feel a need to master. My roommate LOVES Sharry Baby....I am not a fan of
the genus and I used to kill them....she begged me to try to learn to grow them. I have my first huge, multi branched spike on one now...I feel proud I could do it....finally
