Temperature Control for Wine Coolers

    Hey everyone,
    Setting up a wine cooler for pleurothallids. I've read the article Alfonso Doucette wrote for The Pleurothallid Alliance and the Zoo Med climate control devise he recommends seems to be discontinued. What are other folks using to program temperature controls for their wine coolers?

    I have an Inkbird temperature controller that works well. Programming it is a bit clunky, but it has lots of great functionality (like multiple temperature throughout the day and night) and has held up well over time.

    I also use an InkBird controller and really like it. My first one crapped out (possibly because of a power surge) and they replaced it for free. Overall, I really like that you can have multiple set points and it has some nice features designed to protect the compressor on the cooler.

    You're right about the clunky setup! I just got mine today and have it hooked up but have yet to figure out how to program day/night

    A word of caution, I used a few different inkbirds for exactly this purpose and invariably they would work for 2-4 months and then fail, always stuck in the “on” position. Be ready for this. If your wine cooler is a compressor based cooler this will likely turn it into a freezer. Mine is a thermoelectric and can only get to around 38 F before the cooling fins ice over. Anyways I would strongly suggest getting a freezer alarm so you don’t accidentally freeze your whole collection when the inkbird inevitably fails.
