Stanhopea problem

    I have been growing and blooming Stanhopeas for several years with success. However for the past two seasons the Stanhopea nigroviolacea sends out several(three or four) spikes They grow downward and appear fat and turgid. After a few days they change color and when I touch them they seem to be hollow. Then they stop growing and dry up. Any idea If I am doing something wrong ?

    Has happened to me a few times with Sta. panamensis, I have been unable to ascertain what causes it.
