    Description: Described by Lindley in 1840 as Sophronitis violacea this species was placed in it's own genus by Schlecter in 1925. Sophronitella violacea is from cooler mountainous regions and dry savannah of SE Brazil.

    Culture:


    Temps:
    - Summer: 62-87F
    - Winter: 60-72F

    Light: Bright filtered. Slight shadow.

    Humidity: 60% minimum.

    Air circulation: Moderate

    Growing location: Greenhouse

    Water:
    - Frequency: Daily during growth. Once weekly during dormancy.
    - Fertilizer & frequency: Once per month during growth.
    - Dry rest: Yes.

    Blooming season: Late Autumn - Early winter

    Flower size: About 2.5cm tall.

    Plant size: Pseudobulbs are roughly 5cm, and the leaves can reach 9-10cm.

    Other firsthand observations: This lovely species should always be mounted. Potted plants usually fail.
