Talk on leafless went well, told people which vendors had leafless, and feedback was good from the vendors. So they liked what they heard and what they saw was interesting enough to invest. definition of success in my book.

Got to see a bunch of peeps, greg and kathy, cjw, irma, alexis, mary jane, jon, andy easton, chuck, ben, list goes on and on. Some non-net peeps were milt carpenter, claude hamilton, jay pfahl, scully, motes, and all the vendors I know from the past barbecues.

Too early for a plant list, bought some thursday and friday, but going back on sunday to do the vulture crawl. :poke:

Not that hot this year, about 86 but a nice breeze that will blow your hat off in the gusts. Mostly cloudy, so shade isn't at a premium.

A preliminary report, but I have to work the back gate Sunday morning, so I'll do the vulture crawl (my term :poke:) when the vendors mark down on sunday afternoon rather than take the plants back home. I miss the best plants, but get some neat rare/unknown/non-marketable oddballs.

    1 Phal braceana in spike
    2 phal javanica, nbs
2 den cuthbertsonii in spike (LOL, get that cool vivarium built NOW)
1 coryanthes mastersoniana (obscene flowers, how cool)
    1 Laelia ghillyanii
4 Dendrophylax funalis - Yeah leafless
2 campylocentrum burchelli in spike - Yeah leafless!! (Thanks CJW)
Flask Dendrophylax lindenii (small) - Yeah leafless!!!!!!!!!
    Flask Tolumnia Kimberly Kosagki (small)

Hi Jim! Nice to meet you!

I saw/met Alexis, Alexis's Jim, Dew, Bub, jim4eq, iljjlm (and his awesome son!), a frog guy named Alisdair, Chuck the Librarian, Greg Allikas, Ben in SoFla, tenman, suss16, Judy... um.... I can't remember who else. Hope nobody takes it personally. I'll remember if you remind me! :)

Oh yeah... and MARY EFFIN JANE! WOOHOO!

I got too many plants. Mostly bulbos, a few phal species, and a couple of things because they looked sweet.

What was your final count, Jon?

I had a flipping ball. Alexis and Jim are wonderful hosts, they have a great place..just good, good people. Jon is..well, yeah. Jon is great. Jon is Jon. We also met Jim Watts (funny guy!) and Dew. *sigh* Dew is as nice a person as I've ever met. A nice, nice guy. And Ben in S Fla! I finally got to meet him, too. Many hugs were exchanged. Except for Jon. He hates it when people touch him.

I am so thankful to Alexis and her Jim for allowing us to invade her area and for the fantastic food and beer. I hope someday I can make somebody feel as welcomed as you made us feel.

The festival itself surprised me. All of these years I've heard how horribly hot, buggy, glaring sunny...not at all. The skies were cloudy, there was a great breeze, plenty of shade..I had a wonderful time. And the orchids...jeezus. You must go to Redland, at least once.

I came home with only 8 plants. Jon brought me a Paraphal, I bought 6 Phal species and 1 Cattleya species. After seening Alexis' magic shade house, I am inspired to be a better orchid grower.

It was such a ball having you all here, it made the festival weekend even better. Didn't think that was possible. There was so much drinkin, lyin and orchid nerding, I'm going to need a week to recuperate! Actually, we did better than I thought we would on the drinkin' part, and I still have a spare fridge half full of beer. I wonder what I'll do with it all?

The plant selection was unbelievable, the show just keeps getting better and better. And the weather was ideal, with the breeze and cloud cover; it really wasn't uncomfortable at all.

Jon and OI have become underground rock stars. Between the three of us, we had a number of people reply when we introduced ourselves, "you're not Jon/MJ/Alexis from Orchids Interactive are you"!!! That was pretty cool. Our wonderful forum is developing a nice following; now we just need to get the lurkers to participate more. hint.hint.

I came home with a bunch of plants. I'd say I single-handedly kept my favorite vendors in business for the next year, but Jon was as crazy as I was. MJ just shook her head at us...

Ok, back to work. I have a LOT of documenting and mounting to do. Poor me...

Sounds like you guys had a great time. I must see this show. I have never been to one and this one seems like the one to go to.

One plant at a time, Jon.
Harry, you have to go, at least once, just to see. Serious orchid overload. I have never seen anything like that in my entire life.

Alexis, we didn't get our beers on as much as we could have. Didn't want to make a bad first impression....

Yeah, Harry, you really must experience Redland. FWIW, it was the first orchid show I ever attended, too. I'm still blown away by it 12 years later...

We did behave way too much, MJ. First impressions aside, the 5:30 daily alarm puts a damper on the desire to swing from the rafters too much.

Here's what I got. (Don't mind the wonky color; I left my camera on custom WB, and this is the best I could correct. Duh.)

    Just one!

MY nobilior is at the bottom left, to the right of the rupis. I don't know where I put yours. I hope that's not what my cat was dragging around the house a while ago.

Yeah Jon, that mariae is unbelievable!!

Harry, that's the Phal mariae that Jon commented on. It's a monster. I have another that blooms for me, but this one is much larger. Has a spike, too, which is hidden in the pic.
