Cut the entire cane. Then re-cut to the correct length. Make it a little longer and pare down the bottom ends so it goes through the slits in the bottom and is snug. The babies need to be just above where the medium will top out.

Add the medium and you are done. Pot it the way the rest of you pots are. I use clay pots and lava rock. Which means they get watered daily. Do not remove the babies from the cane. It provides moisture and nutrition. And mothers milk. Let the old cane rot off in time.
