I received both of these at deaths door a few years ago. Happily they have made a comeback. The first two images are one clone and the last image is a different clone.

You grow so many of these nice species from fairly obscure genera! Is this an intermediate grower?

Thanks, Zach. It does best cool for me. I have grown them with 56 nights/80 days, but now I have them with 50 nights/75 days. Alan Koch of Gold Country Orchids grows wonderful specimen plants of this and I know his conditions are warmer. Perhaps Daniel can tell us what those conditions are.

I have no success getting these to bloom!
Lovely patterning on these. They must like bright light, the leaves are quite light?

Kermie, I grow them in about the same light as masdevallias. The foliage is more of a grey green color than many genera. How are you growing it?

I had not seen it before I got these plants. Most people say they can't grow them, but I find they do really well. I'm attempting seed on this and also have capsules on Promeneae silvana, another uncommon one.

Calvin, when they are happy the will ring themselves with flowers. Quite a sight. Another nice feature is that they don't need to be repotted as often as many other genera.

    Hi Marni,
I grow mine with my masdevallias also. It grows leaves just fine, but won't flower. I can't remember the cross off the top of my head, I don't know if that has something to do with it. I suppose the leaves on mine are comparable.

I like this flower. I have Promenaea riograndensis 'Vera Cruz' CBR/AOS x self and its flowers are off white. Mine is growing three seed pods. Frankly, I do not know what to do with these pods. I think this plant is self pollinating. This is a small plant, no larger that 6" tall.

So I seek advice, should I cut these pods off? Should I repot it while in bloom/pod development?

If I get spontaneous pods, or in this case it appears they are cleistogamous, I will take the pod off as soon as I see it. It is a drain on the plant to hold it. Sometimes plants will do this one year and then not again. If it does it several years in a row I toss the plant since, theoretically, I grow it for the flowers. This isn't a common species. 6" tall is pretty tall for a promenaea. The best time to repot this genus is when the new growths have matured. Unlike other orchids they do not like to be repotted when a new growth is coming.
