"I figured it had to do with the photo fanatics."

A person doesn't have to be a 'fanatic' to have the desire for making decent photos. 'Fanatic' has a connotation of excessiveness. That's simply not the case for those that wish to make decent photos.

Decent is relative. Relative to me is a photo of the foliage. I dont give a crap what is in the background, etc as long as I get a general idea of the foliage, or picture. Everyone will have different ideas of what "decent" is and thats fine. Decent to you may be fanatic to me, and decent to me is probably a crappy photo in someone elses eyes.

Im using you as an example, but not in a negative way. In the post you made above of the 100 steps to a photo is fanatic in my eyes. That doesnt mean anything bad, just that you are(or appear to be) very passionate about your photos and wont accept anything that isnt spectacular. And like I said what is fanatic to me is normal to someone else, and what is normal to me is probably garbage in the eyes of a real photographer.

I always like to see foliage shots. I'm a foliage person though. VERY few of the orchids I do grow are in my greenhouse b/c of their flowers. I actually cringe when I see a really neat flower only to find out I don't get to see the whole plant.

I don't need a foliage shot only, but a shot that shows the whole plant WITH the flower would be awesome.

I will contribute to the foliage thread if I have plants I feel would go well in it. One should definitely be started.

Well, there you go. Since it's my photo I get to decide. I'd rather eat dirt than post a photo and apologize for it in the same post.

That was you cryin' for a plant photo of Mediocalcar kaniense. Did you try the OI search engine? I guess not. Jon and Forrest have to pay $4356/month for that service. Use it.

This is a thread about foliage. We weren't talking about cigars or cigarettes to my knowledge...

Haha. Don't get riled up man!! I was wondering who you were addressing with that quote b/c you didn't quote correctly. There is a button below each post called, "Quote". You should use it so that people know you are addressing them.

Now... No, I did not use the OI search engine. I didn't care that much. :D

    I don't smoke. Never have.

Wow!! How rude!! I love when people resort to insults when they have no credible defense. How was I bitching exactly??

Listen Dale... I'm awfully sorry that your feelings got hurt b/c we asked to see foliage photos. Your flower only photos are fine and we aren't saying they aren't good enough b/c there is no foliage. We just like foliage too. It causes you no harm I'm quite certain. So get off your Pony, and man up. Goodness! Are your plants covered in spots and fungus?? Is that why you don't want to show them??

Thomas posts whole plant shots and I love them. I would love to see more of that. Is it really that big of a deal?? If you don't want to, DON'T. Thats it!! We just like it when people DO!

I love foliage pictures and I think a thread showing unusual orchid foliage would be great. Antone and Mike, I understand your passion for foliage and share it but I also understand that is not the case with most people. I also do not have the passion or skills for photography that many possess on this forum. I think you must agree it's a real treat to see the flower pictures from those that spend the time to get it right. I myself point the camera and what happens, happens. Many of the plants I see with cool flowers have mundane foliage so I would not be likely to grow them anyway because of that fact. We are in the minority for sure.

I think if we who are interested in foliage pictures should start posting some. I don't think it matters where. I seldom look at where a post has been placed anyway. This is one of the only forums I know of that shows mostly species and I sense that's where the passion is for most of the folks for whatever reason.

I'm going to start an unusual foliage thread today and let's see what happens.

I grow orchids because I love the way the plants look. That they flower is an added bonus, imo. I don't buy plants if the foliage and/or growth habit isn't appealing to me. For example, I really don't like thin-leafed genera, like Oncs, because they look like generic houseplants.

I take pictures of my plants all the time, first when I acquire them, and then when they bloom. I don't bother posting the pics online if the whole display isn't appealing, at least to me. Flower pictures are pretty, and I enjoy them; but a picture of a spectacularly bloomed plant is what knocks my socks off. I really appreciate when folks take the time to show the whole plant.
