Porroglossum josei was described only in 1995 by Carl Luer. This Porroglossum grows in the province of Esmeraldas in northwestern Ecuador at about 1000 m altitude. The name comes from José Portilla, the discoverer of the species. Not much else is known about it. I have it growing in my temperate to warm orchidarium. I have had it since March this year and it is a first bloomer for me. The flower is unfortunately not quite well developed.
