Ponthieva ventricosa, Caribbean endemic

    I found a patch of this small terrestrial orchid growing a few hundred feet from my home. I have monitored it for a number of years and it turned out that competition with ferns was slowly weakening the plants. I cut all the fern fronds that shading the plants and the result was the patch became much healthier and this year will produce its most prolific blooming ever.
