I really like this species. The buds start off as this tiny little thing, the end result flower size is somewhat suprising. I mean, it is not huge or anything, but for the plant it is big.

    Anyway,

    Those flowers are great.

If anyone can give me some clarification, I'm assuming this species is named after the pitcher like flowers. IOSPE gives it the common name of Sarrazin's Pleurothallis, in reference to 18th century physician/naturalist Michel Sarrazin after whom the genus Sarracenia was named. Does anyone know why the common name refers to Sarrazin, rather than Sarracenia. After all, Sarrazin died 143 years before IOSPE's first reference to a name (Physosiphon pubescens (Barb. Rodr. 1877) and as he worked in France and New France/Canada, he probably never had anything to do with this species.

Nice, Forrest. I have the non-blooming variety. I've had it two days, and.... nothing.

Andrew, this one was named for the similarity to the pitcher plant genus sarracenia. According to Luer in Icones Pleurothallidinarum III

Dale, sounds like you got a dud. Send it back and complain.

    Jon, I/C shade.

    Thanks folks

:) Ok, let me add it to the "List of my plants that I should ask Chris if he wants every few weeks until he is ready to grow them"

LOL. OR, you can let me know when you might want a piece. I think I ran out of room on that list.

    1st...this is so damn cute!
2nd...no idea why I have one but it's in the sunny kitchen window, growing great but no blooms. Am I giving it too much sun?

I consider the forum archive to be very useful, and I just want to clarify the ID of this photo (so other people looking at this thread doesn't get confused about the ID). I'm pretty sure that this is Acianthera asaroides, which has a much narrower distribution than A. bragae. Pleurothallis sarracenia, Sarracenella pubescens etc. are now considered synonyms of A. bragae. Here is a related thread.
