Another recent acquisition.
Please allow begging!
I realize now this is Pleione yunnanensis
How many did you get? I like it for the same reason why I like maculata, the lip.
I only got one, but my friend got a few. I'm going over to his greenhouse tomorrow, I'll see if he'll let one go.
Very nice, Bill!
According to this:
Pleione Taxonomy - The Pleione Website
all three monographs seem to consider them separate species. Did they get synonymized recently? I don't know much about Pleione (and I just ordered a couple books), so I'm curious.
Do you keep it completely dry at this stage (until the leaves start to expand)?
They are not synonyms, my plant was just mislabeled. I keep all my Pleiones outside year round, so they tend to not dry out. A friend of mine unpots his as bare bulbs for the winter and only repots when new growth starts.
Bill, do you want me to change the thread title?
Oh, ok, I misunderstood... Thanks for clarifying.
Hello Kelly, that would be great if tyou could change the title. I can't figure out how to do that on my phone app.
Do you think you could grow them in the ground up in Eureka?
Yeah. A friend of mine grows them on an old spruce stump on the Oregon coast. I just haven't found the spot to commit to growing them out of pot. I grow them in pot outside year round.
