I posted this on Orchidboard as well, I figure I might get some good replies here.

Fraser's Thimble Farms - Cypripedium, lady slipper, Hardy Orchids, Pleione, Bletilla

This Canadian nursery sells Pleione Limprichitii, and claims that it is hardy to -20C.

However, every other site on the culture of this orchid says that it cannot handle hard freezes.

Does anyone else have experience growing this plant outdoors in cold climates?

I can do a dry -20C min, but here in zone 5b it will definitely freeze.

Hmm... I can't say I know much on that one... Pleiones are my "lion's bane" orchid. I think they're some of the most beautiful flowers, but I have killed so many that I've just decided to give up on them for now. :(

I did a little bit of searching and found similar results: "They do not tolerate freeze" and "...while the rest period imposes much stiffer temperatures: 4-6 °" which isn't into freezing temperatures. Odd..
