Plant safe galvanized steel coating

    I mainly grow in tents and old aquariums. I've used the green plastic coated welded cage wire before (first pic) but i bought some uncoated (second pic) because it was all that was available and was wondering if there's any way to seal it in. I have a decent amount of tillandsias/air plants and they can't tolerate any metals in the water. I know this often used in greenhouses and similar setups but im not sure how you seal it, or if you even can. Does anyone know how safe galvanized steel is? I grow a lot of sensitive stuff and I'm working on a setup for plants from highland NG and similar areas so i don't want to take any chances but would like to use it.

    I've been using 1/2" hardware cloth, galvanized and uncoated for the rings I hang my mounted plants. I still use some I made in the mid '80's. I've never seen any problem with it. Also, I use galvanized wire as the hooks on all of my mounts and that doesn't do anything either.

    Ok thank you. I think the oxidation layer forms a protective layer and it forms pretty quickly so i think you're right. Thanks i just wanted to be extra cautious.
