Phragmipedium Petite Queillette

I got this plant from a trade with another forum member almost exactly 1 year ago from today. While this is an older picture (as usual), I was shocked that it was already blooming for me.

For a Phragmipedium, it's fairly compact (so far) and seems to have shorter rhizomes, too, which helps keep it sizable. The smaller flowers can be bicolored on the lateral sepals, but this form is completely pink, which I like more. It also tends to drop its flowers before any signs of wilting occurs.

I grow mine in a well-draining terrestrial medium (peat-based) and keep it fairly wet, even to the point of sitting in a shallow saucer. I grow it fairly bright light (slightly less than Cattleya, more than Phalaenopsis), but the leaves do display a little more yellowing than I'm okay with. It's grown in intermediate-warm temperatures.

 

Yes we did! The new growth on mine required that I plant it much deeper for that exact reason! The plant in general also seems to climb but... It's too great not to like.
