A warm growing species from Malaysia and Sumatra. My clone does not have a very strong fragrance, but it is very nice none the less. I like the sleek shape of the waxy flowers and the light blue/purple hue of coerulea variety. Though I wonder if there would be form instead of variety..? Even though my tag from Schwerter says "var." ...? I grow it in the intermed/warm vivarium planted in EpiWeb substrate, relatively low light and high humidity. My plant blooms faithfully twice a year, late summer and early spring, with several flowers in succession, and blooms for several seasons on the same inflorescence.

Thanks a lot! I am really not that big on Phalaenopsis, but this one still makes me smile... :)

    Nice work, K!

Interestingly enough (OK, to me, anyway), every blue phal out there originated with a single wild-collected plant of this species from somewhere in Indonesia, I think back in the early 1980's. I remember seeing it offered for sale at $30,000.

    Thanks a lot. :D
Interesting info Ray, I had no idea... Although $30K is a bit steep, it sure would have been something to at least see this mythical blue "mother" Phal... ;)

    1) $30k was the asking price; I have no idea what was actually paid for it.
    2) Even if it was full price, I'll bet it was worth the investment, considering the number of blue phals sold.
