I grow some of the higher elevation phalaenopsis. I have several P. lobbii and this one has done the best. I am growing it in the cool house and it has bloomed every years since I got it. I have others that I grow in intermediate conditions that don't do as well. I'd be interested to hear how others grow theirs.

Very poorly is how I grow mine, though it hasn't croaked yet in the couple of years I've had it. I'll try keeping it cooler, I never realized this one would like that. What's your watering schedule like around the year?

Nat, I lessen the watering in the winter, but it isn't a hard dry rest (I've stress some trying that). It gets daily water in the warmer months and lighter watering and/or misting in the winter. It gets pretty good air movement and dries fast enough that I get a bit of moss, but not heavy growth.

The only Phal I have is cornu-cervi and I grow it intermediate, mounted. It blooms regularly on several multi-year spikes. Your lobbii is beautiful.

I've killed quite a few phals while learning that will-power and desire won't compensate for inadequate heat. I've never tried cornu-cervi. It is even lower elevation that lobbii so I've stayed away from it. What is your minimum night where you are growing it?

I aim for 60F minimum but on very cold nights it has been down to 53F. Last night was a low of 62. Wednesday it got down to 58.

I guess I just need a few more greenhouse so I can cover the full spectrum of temperatures. My warmest is 56F. I now have 2 heat mats in that one for potted plants and that is making a big difference. I am now considering a 3rd heat mat!

Thanks for the info, Marni! I'm going to keep trying as this is one of my favorite Phal species, yours is very beautiful. I think I need to modify the mount to retain more water, this is one I tried on eco/epiweb-type material and it just isn't working out well in my conditions for anything very moisture-loving. Luckily it seems like a pretty tough little species so I haven't actually killed it yet...

Oh, and I think you definitely need more greenhouses! The more great species you grow and propagate the better for all of us.

IMG_0890.JPG You cool growers! I have never, ever had a problem with my greenhouse being too cool. :) Marni, I have lobbii and parishii that I grow in moderate light. I lower the amount of water in the winter, but it still definitely stays humid as it is very close to my hydrofogger. In the winter, my night time temps are right around 60, with some really cold nights down to 57-58. Summer time, my night-time temps are usually at least 70 and last summer, the night time temps were in the low 80s. (It was a scorching summer.) Here's a quick -- none-to-fancy shot of one of mine that happens to be in bloom at the moment.

Actually -- I forgot to down size the photo and it was humungous! So I had to edit the post with a smaller image. :) Should be up now.

Marni, your lobbii is lovely. It's great to learn that this species is apparently able to thrive in both warm conditions like Reyna's and in cool conditions at Marni's, quite a contrast.

I'm hoping my seedling blooms this year for the first time. Looking forward to seeing that amazing lip that quivers with the slightest breeze - so adorable!
