Vendor mislabeling strikes again! I was so excited when this sent up double spikes; I have long waited to see those beautiful green and white flowers! Alas, as seems to be more and more the case, the plant was mislabeled (I haven't repotted it since I got it last year at redlands so there has been no opportunity for the label to have been switched).

I'm actually very fond of Phaius Dan Rosenberg, which is what this really is, but of course, I already have another plant of that.

Fortunately I have another 'album', though a year from blooming size. I just hope at least THAT one is correctly labeled!

Tennis, did your other clone bloom out to be an alba? I don't remember seeing it posted.

No, and no. Both the ones I bloomed ere the same, not the alba I was supposed to have, and I haven't found another alba.

I love this kind of color! Not so contrast, it gives me the soothing effect almost.
Here's a quick question tho, because I'm not familiar with terrestrial orchids. What's the difference between spathoglottis, calanthe, and phaius genera? They all have the same leaves, and pseudobulb. It's really confusing for me.

    Hi GraddyUnang,
Phaius and Calanthe are close relatives, and some botanists deal them as one genus. The lip of Phaius is usually not attached to the base of the column, while in Calanthe this is usually the case. The genus Spathoglottis is member of the tribe Collabiae, as are the genera Phaius and Calanthe. Phaius and Calanthe have been hybridized successfully. No hybrid between Spathoglottis and either Phaius or Calanthe has been registered.

So between those 3 genus, just Phaius and Calanthe which are very close related in term of genetics hence someone successfully hybridized them?

There is the genus Gastrorchis that is also closely related to Calanthe and Phaius. There are rumors in the internet that a hybridization with Spathoglottis was successful, but there is no registration of such a hybrid and there are no pics of such a Spathophaius ...
