What's your feeling about this vendor, especially his correct plant ID rate? I'm writing this post after I just discovered that, for the third time, the M. rubeola I was supposed to receive was a M. rodolfoi (it's currently blooming). M. rubeola is one of the most expensive Masdevallia on his list, and I first bought a pair 4-5 years ago. both bloomed rodolfoi. 2 years ago, I try a couple again. one died before blooming, the second was M. tricycla. one month ago, I got a (free replacement this time!) pair of "checked, verified, sure M. rubeola plants". One is blooming now, and is rodolfoi. And I don't think one could blame the similar plant/leaves look, leading to mistakes with wild collected plants. these look really like seed raised plants.
My guess is that they don't have, or really few, true M. rubeola for sale. But have a huge batch of rodolfoi. So they pass their excess rodolfoi's under other names. Some years ago, I got several Masdies from them under diverse names, which bloomed as pandurilabia. Then the same again with prodigiosa.
Together with the 2 last "non rubeola" free replacement plants, they sent me a piece of Epidendrum cockii as replacement for what I got as cockii 2-3 years ago, and which bloomed a hugly non-cockii Epidendrum sp. I can't tell for now, as the replacement piece is really smallish and won't bloom until 2 more years I guess, but I'm pretty certain it will be the same "mistake"...

Has someone ever received a true rubeola from Peruflora? or a nice cockii as they show in pictures on their website/forum?

    Laurent

In terms of correctness of plant ID, they are just as "good" as Ecuagenera, not better or worse IMO.

I agree Ecuagenera have been quite terrible for ID's, but they made lots of efforts, and that problem seems much less now.

I don't buy a lot of masdevallias from them and have never tried rubeola, but I do buy from them regularly and in general I am very happy with my purchases. It certainly isn't perfect and when I get something misidentified I usually let them know and get a replacement. A few things like Ponthieva I just assume will be mislabeled. Of the two species I've ordered repeatedly, I only get one so I don't order the 2nd one any more.

I have ordered E kockii but haven't bloomed it yet. I have plants in flask from a seed pod that came on one of their plants but hesitate to put it on the market since the parent hasn't bloomed yet either so am not sure.

I don't think their errors are intentional and they are interested in hearing about them.

Did you send them pictures of the most recent blooming. If you don't get what you pay for you should let them know and should receive a replacement. Again.

The problem is it happens so often, again and again..., One time my Ecuagenera order had 60% of mislabeled plants. They replaced them but the replaced plants were not correctly labeled either. During the (replacement) process, buyers may have to pay show entrance fees, travel expenses or extra postage if you can't pick up your replacement. The losing side is the buyer IMO.

How does one even get in touch with Peruflora?
BTW, I think Ecuagenera is getting a little better with labeling.

Well, my second replacement M. "rubeola" bloomed, and it is a M. rodolfoi, like the first one...
On the other hand, the small piece of D. decockii they sent as a replacement for a hugly non-decockii plant, tried to bloom much earlier than I would expect. The buds blasted just before opening, probably due to a heat wave. I dissected one of those buds, and it looks like it might be a colorful decockii-thing like they show in their pictures!

I finally bloomed one of my 2 remaining Epi kockii from them (I killed the 2 first plants I got before blooming) and it isn't kockii.
