    Hello,

These are some paphiopedilum hennisianum that I’ve seen in the forest in the Philippines.

There were more than 20-30 of them spread over a small area. The biggest flower was 10cm wide, but most of them have lateral petals of around 4cm long, and the dorsal sepal of 4 cm long and 3 cm wide.

The leaves were about 15cm long.

They were growing mostly in deep shade.

I came back 4 days later, because the forest was gorgeous. Unfortunately, except for one plant that was somehow hidden in the bushes, all paphiopedilums that were in flower were already smuggled. The place is inside a natural reserve….

    Thank you for watching,

    Dana

Very nice in situ photos, but very depressing story.

Depressing, indeed. At that time, I felt so helpless. Almost angry. I have tried to contact some people, to see what can be done to protect such areas, but... it seems for the moment there is nothing that can be done.
Now I am trying to organize my orchids-photos, so I decided to spread the word about these plants. Maybe if more people are aware, we will find a way to change things.

That's heart-breaking. :anguished: I'm glad you at least got to witness the beauty of them all growing before they were smuggled away...

It's true....How can we all prevent such things?
