Don't forget the Pacific Orchid Expo in San Francisco February 26th through 28th. This is one of my favorite shows & it's certainly one of the largest on the west coast. San Francisco's gorgeous in the winter - not a bad way to spend a weekend!

Wow! How can you pass that up, Alexis? I'd go, but crowds give me hives.

Crowds give me hives, too, Dale; but I make exceptions for orchid shows. I just ignore everyone...

However, $467 seriously cuts into my Redland budget.

More info. on the $467.00 thing, Jon. What hotel located where? I didn't see one hotel
anywhere near the exposition site and cabs are a bitch in SF. It ain't like whistling one
down in NYC. I loved the show and the weather, but getting back and forth to the
    show was horrendous.

Angela, I stay at the Cow Hollow Motor Inn, not glamorous, but clean & quiet.
    Walking distance from the POE.
30 minutes, but you have 2 Starbucks on the way, so do-able!
They probably sell out of the less expensive rooms.
Be SURE to request a room on the "quiet side" of the hotel, if you can!

Would love to see you there!
    Are you thinking of coming?

It was an Orbitz thing, Angela. I think the hotel was something like "The Phal Inn". Or something like that.

Karen, I'd love to come, but the weather here is a bit wicked for flying at the moment.
Besides that, I have a good bit of trouble walking that far due to an aging hip. The
cab situation really pissed me off last year, although I had a fine time talking to the
drivers once I finally got a cab...one Russian, one Brazilian, one Arabic speaker from
Iran, I think. I suspect I visited every one of those Starbucks trying to find a cab!

Still considering it though. Surely, there must be a hotel closer to the expo. site.

Angela, there aren't hotels closer to the show. You can call for a cab to pick you up. Yellow Cab is the biggest car company. You can call before you want them.
I do hope you decide to come!
    Bring your cell!
    Call a cab!

the Town House hotel is just 3 blocks away, a $6. cab ride with tip. Tell them you are connected to the show and get a discount, last year it was $69. a nite. Nothing fancy, but it's all about the show any way. My friend at Napa Valley Orchids has even more angrecoids this year, plus a bunch of species phals.

It used to be that in most years most of my purchases at POE came from Andy or White Oak. But in the last couple of years I've had the best luck with Napa Valley. She has some great plants & lots of angraecoids ... some day I'd like to visit the nursery.

Did I hear species Phals.? Unusual ones? I have a reservation at The Argonaut that is
just over one hill on Jackson St. However, we are just installing a new heat pump at
a $10,000.00 whack or freeze to death. That reservation just may have to be cancelled. Somebody please at least look at the Phal. species for me.
