We have a very large population of Mayan Indians from Guatamala, where this plant is from. I have a crew that manages my yard. They do great work. When they first noticed the orchid one of them pointed to the plant and said Ek. Come to find out that Ek is indian dialect for the name of the plant. Their dialect is thousands of years old. Long before Kew gardens started keeping track of plant names. So around here we call it Ek. And there are no taxonomists around here to complain. And if they do complain I am going back to Shomburkia.
