as some of you may recall, my gf and I bought a house on the Big Island back in 2005. We returned from a ten day trip on Monday.

Here's a pic of the back yard.

These are pineapple plants that I have planted in this old wash tub. All of these plants are propogated from pineapples we bought at various farmers markets.

And some new ones just getting started.

This is an avocado tree with a bunch of orchids hanging in it. A few are attached to branches as well

I'll start another thread with a a couple of shots of the few orchids that were blooming.

JonP - get the real spiky-leaved pineapple and plant it all around just inside your fence - it looks cool, tastes good when ripe, and is just 'great' for intruder control.

I love everything, especially the rain chain. Did it come with your purchase? It's really cool and I'm searching the net for one for my husband for his shop. You are so lucky to have that property in Hawaii!

I too love our rain chain. It's right outside our bedroom window and the sound of it is so pleasant even when it's really pouring. Much nicer than a down spout! I bought it and installed it shortly after we bought the house. I'll post a link to where I got it later when I'm at home.
We are indeed 'lucky shits' to have this place. It is such a relief every time we arrive. It doesn't take more than a day to slip back into a completely different way of liveng.
I miss it horribly whenever we are away!
