This year has been cruel to me the weather in Ohio has been extremely cold and wet this year things that normally do extremely well had new growth rot or spikes decided to abort. With all this going on I had a few blooms on a cymbidium I got to bloom Little Black Sambo. But this one was the most exciting one because I waited three years for it and I had to wait these three long years to see if it was even what I had ordered. A friend of mine order the same thing and she got something completely different needless to say we did pay a fraction of what you would normally pay for these stanhopea. I repotted them this year and thought hey maybe next year I'll get a bloom but this is the first stanhopea i have bloomed myself and I'm very proud after a year of Sad sad Orchid growing on my part this was a welcomed Spike just one week from today is my society meeting and I could only wish they would be able to smell this with me it's intoxicatingly sweet I don't know how else to describe it my husband help me set up a webcam so I could capture the opening since I was scrapping off all these layers of paint and wallpaper with my friend .
So here is my stanhopea tigrina var nigroviolacea (predator

Anna - From looking at the bloom, it was worth the wait, now you need to bloom your Calanthe's. Thanks for the post and the PM you sent me.

Beautifully grown. What a massive flower!

Hmmm... I wonder why? Is it in a basket with sphagnum like the one you posted? I have grown mine bright and shady and it didn't seem to matter. Maybe it requires the warmer temps.
