Will this plant survive in a shade house or does it need to be in a greenhouse? I went to a sort of like an open house yesterday and this one caught my attention.

It depends on what conditions you provide in your shadehouse. Temps, RH, light, airflow, etc. My greenhouse provides similar condistions to Alexis's shadehouse.

I've never seen a similar huge Microcoelia! :O
I have one little on my grow area and I take it nearby the light.
Hot, hight umidity and brilliant light are necessary for this king of orchids.
Mine has never bloomed, so I think light or something else are insufficient.
