Absolutely, Marni! Karen should come and stay with one of us since there's no preview this year on Thurs. night.

No preview! Thats a shame. I really enjoyed it when I attended a few years ago... Whats the reason for getting rid of it?

Well, we're kind of hijacking this thread, but the main reason is that the preview turn-out has decreased over the years. It doesn't make a lot of sense to have a wine party on a Thurs. night. I know I've never done the preview for that very reason. So, they're having a party on Fri. night after the closing. If you go to the SF. Society webpage the times and info. are listed.

    Mac

I find Macs quite time consuming. From the moment I unpacked my iMac, everything has been slow. It starts with the packaging. Awe-inspiring. The attention to detail is amazing. When the iMac sits on my desk - I gaze in wonder. Everyone who walks past it stops and comments. Brilliantly designed and the thing just works. And as if 24 inches wasn't big enough, now there is 27 inches. Got to get, got to get .....

It hasn't been trouble free. I have aPowerbook as well but it has had all sorts of problems after I dropped a glass of Diet coke on it a few years ago. Got it fixed though. It has finally packed it in four weeks ago after the blasted pet rabbit came in one night (the cat managed to open a sliding door) and pissed on the keyboard. RIP - it had a hard life.

If I go to a client, I end up using Windows. It is ok, but only OK.

I am or have been heavily involved in the auto industry. With no intention of causing offence, I understand why the US auto companies are in trouble. The vehicles are truly underwhelming compared to Japanese, German (depending where made) and increasingly the Koreans.

It was only today I was wondering what Apple would be able to do to the designs and product quality.

Both Microsoft and Apple are amazing companies it is just that Apple just makes beautiful products.

I went to my phone store yesterday to upgrade my phone to an inexpensive smartphone. I walked out with the new iPhone 3Gs. Wow, is this thing amazing, or what? Like Clawd indicated, even the packaging is a work of art.

I'm a PC, though, for my regular computing needs. And so far, I like Windows 7 MUCH better than shitty Vista.

Lets be clear, the PC is really not a Microsoft Product. Certainly they offer the most popular operating system for it and in my mind that has made the PC/Windows combination the reason why most homes have a computer in them today. I remember when OS2 was supposed to be the OS of the future. Windows is popular because it is an open platform for development. They publish the API's for any developer to use.

For the most part Apple didn't let independent developers write anything for their platform. That was a big mistake for them. Apple knows how to make themselves seem elite and better. But, bottom line is they have MUCH less to offer in the way of software and at the same time are MUCH more expensive. As far as I can tell from people I know who have them they don't last any longer and become obsolete as fast. Their iPhone product was just anounced as the worst phone on the market but it and the iPod line is where most of their revenue comes from.

I will give them this, they are innovators but their products are too expensive for what they are.

The iPhone is an awful phone, but a phenomenal toy.

I just wanted to add that I'm now running Boot Camp http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1656 and love the ability to have both a Mac and a PC in the same computer. So far I'm only using the PC to run Orchid Wiz and AQ, but I'm sure I'll pick up some more software that I'll now be able to run. On my old laptop I was running Virtual PC and it was sloooow. Boot Camp is great!

Agree with Candace on Bootcamp - it works pretty well (though I have trackpad issues on the windows side of thingsā€¦)

I'm a mac (hehe, literally too, since my last name includes it) and I agree with Clawd, they sure are pretty - and Clawd - your mentioned issues involve accidental damage - not too much to do with Apple really. ;)

Personally, I've had good luck so far with both my iPhones. Hope that keeps up!
