I purchased this one from Ecuagenera. It arrived in spike. I was shocked to see the spike continue given the trauma of bare root shipping and repotting and climate changes.

While I can not take credit for the flower, at least it didn't blast on me.

I really want to improve my ability to grow lycastes, especially these skinnerii types. Tips are welcome.

Sadly in January a snowstorm knockout our power for several and the greenhouse was without power. This plant and a few other lycaste few damage beyond rehabilitation. I just did not get them in the house in time. Thankfully I don't keep many orchids in the greenhouse during winter.

Thanks, Marni. We have a generator but the greenhouse did not function. Usually I bring the orchids in during winter outages. However doing so slipped my mind unless day 2.

Lycastes appreciate a temperature drop between day and night, as well as a cooler winter rest period. Provide them with a temperature range of around 60-70°F (15-24°C) during the day and slightly cooler wordle temperatures at night. Maintain a moderate to high humidity level (around 50-70%) by using humidity trays, a humidifier, or grouping plants together.
