Little white spots on phal roots.

    I can't really see clearly in this picture. Have you tried looking with a magnifying glass? Can you scrape them off with gentle pressure? If it is an insect (mealybug?) you can dab a bit of alcohol on one and see if it makes a difference.

    Kara, I have noticed on some orchids with fat roots (like Phals) when they are freshly watered and the outer layer (velamen) is totally saturated, they take on a bright green color with white dapples. I think that may be what you are seeing.

    I agree with Kelly - I think they are nothing more than little pockets of air that somehow don't get easily wetted.
