I remember reading somewhere (maybe on this Forum?) that there is a variety or clone of L. anceps that has shorter spikes. I have the "typical" variety of L. anceps and the inflorescences are so long that it is unwieldy. Does anyone know the name of or grow a short spike variety? Thanks.

The albas have much shorter spikes compared to the type.

Kelly, you should inquire at the Santa Barbara orchid estate, they have an amazing collection of Laelia anceps. I seem to recall they had a short spike variety of the 'typical' purple variety. At least you could get a name.

Also, a friend has a Laelia anceps from Andy's orchids that has a relatively short spike.

    Thank you Daniel and Bill.
Bill, that is a good idea to talk to SBOE. I'll do that.
