Hello, everyone. I live in San Francisco, and I only grow species Cattleyas. While I have been steeped in orchid and other plants growing for many years, I have decided to focus on Cattleya species exclusively.

I have purchased many plants this year, with a focus on C. maxima, C. violacea, C. eldorado var Concolor, C. tigrina, and C. percivalliana var 'Ondine'. I have numerous of these, as well as a variety of others that I am trying out and I would welcome suggestions for dry rest periods, day/night length, humidity, fertilizer schedules, etc. I have a pretty good handle on all of the above requirements but am always open to hearing more from others who have found specific success with particulars that might be useful to me.

Thanks to everybody who reads this and responds, and Happy Holidays.

    C.G.

C.G., welcome to Orchids Forum. Are you growing in your home, greenhouse, outside? Catts are wonderful and I would have more if I had more room. I hope we see some photos of yours posted.

    Thank you, Kelly. Here's a now-blooming Cattleya eldorado from Orchids Eros in Hawaii. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg
This is a Cattleya eldorado that is in full bloom at my house this month. It opened early December and is still fragrant and beautiful.

I have only seen a VERY large container of this orchid at our Memphis Botanical Gardens. It is hidden away from the general public(sadly no funding or interest there). But in flower it is breath taking. One day I may purchase a plant of C. eldorado but there are so many orchids and so little time.

Hey Orchidnut57, thanks for your reply. I have recently acquired 14 2" seedlings of this plant, all Concolor, as well as the 2 mature plants I have. I bought both of them from Orchids Eros in Hawaii.

It is a divine thing, that's for certain! The color on this one was intense and very even, with a really great fragrance, which lasted for 4 weeks. The flowers themselves finally crapped out after 5 weeks.

I suggest Orchids Eros if you want adult plants at a reasonable price. And Dennis service was exceptional and simply, with very fast shipping.

Any chance you get to take pics of the C. eldorado you mentioned seeing in Memphis would be really awesome to see.

Thanks again for replying and I wish you well.
