Too me, the uploaded one is less sharp, less contrasty with muted colors.

I like the first one better, though the differences are subtle.

I don't see any difference but I can't see all that great either.

Second one is less sharp, less contrast.

The colors are clearly richer on the first.

I agree the second one is less sharp. I've tried a fix. Please repost the comparison, Chris. Thx.

I notice the first image is 600 KB, but the second one is only 93 KB. Compression has a lot to do with image quality. However, I've noticed my posted images aren't nearly as sharp as the same image read from my hard drive, too. I've just decided to accept it.

Oops, it's a different image. Either way, thanks Dale, I hadn't checked that.

I thought so. The first image is still much larger in size than the second so compression is still going to be a factor.

AHHH, ok, so the trick is, if the image is greater than 500 KB, OI compresses it. The most recent post has images that are 400 KB, and the linked vs attached images are now identical.

It seems like there were a few things at work here. First is that by default, the forum software "sharpened" images. This function has been disabled. Second is that there is a file size limit of 500kB. If an uploaded attachment exceeds that size, the software automatically reduces the file size.

On my monitor, the last two images are identical, so I think we've resolved this issue. Unfortunately, there is no way to retroactively "unsharpen" previously uploaded images.

Thanks, Jon. So, is this gonna make Mary Jane's photos look better?

I beg your pardon? Why do you think I don't post photos anymore? And yes, I do have blooming plants right now, smartasses.
