I will NEVER attempt to make another cornish hen in my whole entire life. I don't give a shit who says what, nothing will change my mind on that. I've brined em, I've marinated them and I've seasoned them within an inch of their adorable little lives and they still don't impress me one damned bit. They are tasteless. Cute as a button! but tasteless. WHY do they have to be so cute??

When the dh grills them, they taste better. Maybe I should say that I'll never attempt to cook the little darlings in the oven again. They are tender, they are juicy...they just don't have the flavor I need.
What do you do to yours, F?

Mary Jane, how do you do with real chickens? I never understood the attraction for those imitation ones. Phoney lil' things.

I usually do an olive oil and spice rub down. Sometimes I marinate them in, wait for it, beer. that is right, beer makes everything better.

Dale, I can cook chicken that would make you slap your mama, it is so good. I cook better fried chicken then my mother did. And she was one helluva cook. That is the truth, not one bit of bragging. That is why those sweet little cutie pies PISS ME OFF so badly. I am magic with chicken. Tonight's meal was a disaster. Thank god I had side dishes.

Dammit, man. I want to be the poultry queen.

"I want to be the poultry queen."

*snicker* Don't you think you're a little umm... mature for that? Of course a big banner saying "Turkey Queen" would be kinda neat.

if you do, you need to use a sweet beer, like a brown ale, or a red or something.

    Dont try with Red Stripe.

I'll drink the stripe, thank you.

Thanks, F. If I ever give the adorable little chubby cutie pies another chance, I'll follow your advice. But it's gonna be a while. They really gave me a bad case of pissyface tonight.

    I knew I shouldn't have said that....

Candace, you're a cook. Do you have any secrets about making cornish hens?

You know what, I used to cook them years ago and realized it's more work to eat them than regular chicken, so stopped making them. I used to bake them in garlic butter. Maybe that would strike your taste buds better?

Man, I want to see MJ slap Dale and then I'm a gonna run like hell. I take the little birds and butterfly their ass. Apply lots of rubbings, grill them on the gas grill, and enjoy. I just don't understand the problem.

Mary Jane, I don't cook if I can't nuke 'em, but try cutting one in half down the breast bone, put them in a pie dish with olive oil AND butter, salt, pepper, garlic and sweet basil. Cover the pie plate with another pie plate and nuke for 11-13 minutes on high.
We love 'em and they're really tender and juicy.

Clark, as I mentioned earlier, when they are grilled, they are much tastier then when I bake them in the oven. The rain we've been having lately removed that cooking option for me. I love em on the rotisserie. In the oven, not so much.

Angela, thank you for the suggestion. I doubt I'll microwave them but I will take note of your butchering technique and seasoning.

Little tasteless things anyway. Some feral cat will get a real treat today.

Wrap them in bacon. They are pretty good that way.

Now, there's an idea too. Everything is better with bacon.
    Thanks, Binky.
