It's Eplc. Haiku Twinkle 'Red Star' which is Epi. ilense x Lc. Trick or Treat. It's taking on the reed stem growth and started a spike out of the top but it quit developing. Right now I have it in bark, watered daily, and it hangs about halfway up on the side of my slat house which has shade cloth on both the east and west sides. I'm kinda thinking S/H would be good for this one. Any ideas? TIA

I think it would be a good candidate for s/h. Can it take more sun?

I don't know about the sun, Mary Jane. I had it in even less sun and moved it just recently. The slats are on the top of my slat house only -- the sides are 4 x 4 bull pen mesh and shade cloth -- so it's getting sun through the shade cloth all morning, 50% sun at noon and slightly less as the sun moves more west. It's putting out a new root, finally, so I think it likes it where it is. Thanks.

Edit: I'd love to move it to S/H but I'm sceered to. I got it from Marble Branch, one of my favorite vendors, and I don't think they have any more so if I kill it, I'm done. If it weren't responding favorably to the move I'd do it. Should I just do it anyway? All I need is a push from one of you guys.

Epi. ilense has a strange spike habit. If the spike is still there, just not developing, I would leave it as it is. I found Epi. ilense didn't take well to very bright light.

The spike is still there, still green, and I am leaving it alone. Epi. ilense may not like bright light but we have the Lc Trick or Treat in there, too, so I think I'm halfway between the two cultures. Ya think? I'm open to any suggestions.

I have an ilense crossed with something I got from MB Farms a couple years ago, hasn't bloomed but it was very small when I got it. I have no earthly idea what it is as the tag faded 15 minutes after I got the damned thing home.
Mine is in s/h and growing very well. Maybe just keep an eye on yours, let it bloom and then if you're so inclined, move it to s/h. If it ain't broke, darlin'...... Not sure why your spike has stalled but still green is good.

Yeah, what's up with the tags from MB? I like everything else about them except that. Someone should tell them that the ink on their tags sucks.

Could have been this one. I got mine a couple of years ago, too. Why don't you contact them and see if they have a record of what you bought? Maybe you can order some more orchids from them while you're at it.

That's strange, Jon. Mine's just as clear and sharp as the day I got it. Hmmmmmmm.

Get thee behind me, bad orchid pusher-woman.

Jon, I have a few from them with those clear printed labels and they do fine. So, maybe somebody did go up there and kick ass. Wasn't me though. :(
