    Are you sure it was the first orchid to be cultivated? Here is a paper that discusses cultivation of orchids in China that states:
    It is believed that in ancient China, cultivation of orchids collected from the
    wild started in the private palace gardens of nobles (Deng, 1990) during the Wei
    (220±265 AD) and Chin dynasties (265±317 AD). It was during the Tang dynasty
    (618±906 AD) that orchid cultivation became popular among the common folks.

    I was not aware of this paper.
    You can change the title to: History: Neofinetia falcata... one of the first cultivated orchids!

    I found another link:
    The Story of Orchids - The North of England Orchid Society
    Basicaly, heres what it says about cultivation:
    "The earliest written evidence of their presence if in the form of Chinese and Japanese drawing and literature of the circa 700 B.C. At that time described and used as herbs and cures for many maladies"

    Not every thing you read on the internet is correct. I'll go with the Scientia Horticulturae 87 (2001) paper that sites references.

    I don't understand. Why would post a link where someone can purchase the paper for $35, when I posted a link where one can read the full paper for free? You said you got it to work. Is anyone having trouble downloading the pdf I posted in the link in #2?

    I finally got it to download, but when I tried to load, it said "file unsuported".
    I tried again and again but the same thing kept hapening.

    I then found the page on-line and found the abstract and thought if others had the same problem, they might want to see it.
