I was pointed to this forum in my quest for a Lepanthopsis astrophora 'Stalky' and have spent some time looking through some of the pictures on here. Wow there are a lot of unusual orchids. When I saw some Restrepias, a lightbulb went off and I thought, I bet you guys could help me with my Restrepia Brachypus. I received a small cutting with two leaves a few months ago. I potted it in a bark/moss mix and put it in a glass container to raise the humidity. Since then, it has grown one new leaf and at least 4 or 5 flowers. It started growing another new leaf, but yesterday I discovered that the new leaf had started rotting?.. The roots are fantastic and none of the other leafs seem to be affected, so my question is, what do I need to do to encourage more leaf growth and what did I do wrong that killed the newest growth?

    What about air movement ?
And you should treat with fungicide.
    And I forgot - welcome !

Welcome to OI. How low is the humidity if you don't put it in the glass container? Do you grow any other orchids that are doing well? Is this in a windowsill, in the house? Most orchids don't like still conditions.

I don't have a way to measure the actual humidity, but I feel that it is usually pretty low, especially in the winter. When we turn on our humidifier in the bedroom, it will have a reading of 30% or less. We also run our AC most of the time in the summer. Most of my orchids are in South facing windows. I am growing three phals successfully (one re-bloomed for the second time and the blooms are lasting more than 5 months), and did ok with my miltoniopsis for a while. I then proceeded to about kill it with not watering it enough when my life got crazy three months ago. We'll see if it makes it or not. I also recently acquired an Onc. sharry baby as well as another NOID Milt, but I have not had them long enough to comment on if I am doing a good job or not. The brachypus looks healthy aside from the fact that it lost it's newest leaf growth, and it keeps blooming one after the other.
