    Hello, Everyone!

I've been growing orchids for several years now. However, as a full-time teacher, time spent working in my orchid garden (called The Pretty Spot) 334685392_601298438102166_5754552801285464594_n.jpg
was very limited. Now that I've finally retired, I can devote all of my time to my garden and to getting the most out of my membership here.

I grow my orchids outdoors year-round here in South Florida. In the beginning, my collection was primarily made up of cattleya species/hybrids, dendrobiums and oncidiums. Over the years I've expanded my collection to include catasetinae, phalaenopsis (species), cymbidium, vandaceous, grammatophyllum, bulbophyllum and crytopodium varieties.

My orchid garden is a continual work in progress. So, I plan to gain valuable best practices from this group and to share my successes, failures and ideas for improvement with you as well.

Hi Marie. I am Greg. I too am an American 73 year-old retired (17 Jan. 2022) school music and English teacher. I live in Khon Kaen Thailand. I taught the last 4 years in Thailand and the previous 4 years in China. Same as you, all my orchids are grown outside. I can assume that your climate also has high humidity like Thailand and probably very similar climates all-around. Welcome.

Hi, Greg! It's so nice to meet a fellow educator (or should I say, retired educator ;)). I hope retired life is treating you well.

I do believe the climate of S. Florida is similar to that of Thailand during certain times of the year. It's my understanding, too, that Thailand is the origin of thousands of orchid species and hundreds of orchid genera. So, I'm sure we share many of the same orchid types in our collections. I look forward to interacting with you!
