I know of only two other people that have this species in the states. Small species from New Guinea. I'm not sure it's open all the way, but I'm leaving tomorrow, and was not taking a chance on missing it. It's species like this that make me realize I need to save up for a decent camera and macro lens.

Thanks everyone! I'm really fond of this genus, but I wish I grew them better. Egoista, this one hasn't put on any new growths for me yet, but it is mounted on spag, intermediate temps, fairly bright, pretty wet (daily water, rH >80%).

That is really cool Chris....since it is so rare I guess it would only be a dream to someday get a piece of that one.

Unfortunately, this is a small plant, it will likely be several years before its divisible. Especially with how slow Haps grow for me.

Thank you Jon for providing reference material. Based on petal and lip shape, this is actually closer to H. dolichoglottis, so this one gets retagged as Hapalochilus sp. aff. dolichoglottis.

But wait a minute, you have it mounted on sphagnum??? Perhaps thats why it grows so slow? I don't want to sound rude or anything, but it's an easy species to grow!
I have mine mounted on a piece of wood, it has a little bit of tropical moss on it, but not much. Given water 4-5 times a week. Daily sounds very much

    Regards Lika

I agree with Lika. Mine Hapalochilums species all dry between daily waterings. They are mounted on wood with little or no moss. As the mounts get older and stay wetter, the plants hang out in the air more.
