Habenaria xanthocheila

    This is a very small stature species. I didn't measure it, but my guess would be that the plant was about 4" tall.

    I love this species. Interesting to see that the lobes have serrations, many xanthocheila don't seem to have these, though this is just a causal observation.

    I haven't really figured out the seasons for habenarias, I'm just learning to follow their lead. This first bloomed for me in early
    February of last year. The image updates are from the end of December 2013 (10 months after the last blooming). I've already sown the selfing I did 6 weeks ago. It has grown very well this last year and gave me 2 spikes. I do have some plants of a selfing from February that I have replated, but probably won't be ready to come out for another year.
