IMG_3994.JPG Against my expectations the flowers have no objectionable smell. In fact unlike almost all my other orchids this one appears not to attract any local insects. Under my conditions this plant is a vigorous grower and it is becoming large.

It looks like it should be a stinky one! Does this one get huge?

Seeing it, I can understand the species name: it looks a lot like some of the native Stapelia species (aka carrion flower) that I used to grow when I lived in South Africa.

The pseudobulbs themselves are not large, four to six inches long, wide at the base and tampering to a point. But the plant keeps producing them one on top of the other so its growing by becoming a mass of growths.

To me they look like the result of a night of drunken carousing and maybe a bit more between a flock of bats and a Grammatophyllum.
