Hello, being retired for a number of years now, I have been nipped by the orchid bug. Over the years, like many, I've had a number of the grocery store orchid plants, some of which did well, and others, not so much. Then I got interested in the miniature very of plants that are growable in a household environment. That interest took me to the plant family gesneriad. Over the past year I decided to take the orchid challenge and try my hand at creating a livable environment that would be within the parameters of a number of the smaller orchid species. Not sure I've successfully accomplished that, however, I've kept 5 different species going since April/May of last year and of those species I actually have a plant that is going to produce its first flower for me here shortly (Bulbophyllum ayuthayense). I look forward to perusing the contents of this site as time permits (I know, I'm retired, plenty of time available.... maybe). I've attached a photo that I just took with my iPhone. Hope it shows up correctly. Southwest Montana, elevation a bit over one mile). Cheers

Before you know it, your collection will be huge.
Definitely take some pictures of the flower when it opens up and share on here.

    Welcome!

Here we are, March 28th, 18 days after my initial post (that depicted orchid bud). The bud has bloomed and I made sure to grab the camera and get it on film (digital) for posterities sake. I've got a few other species that I have my fingers crossed that, they too, will be kind enough to bud and flower so that I can see exactly what I have. For this particular plant, I simply followed the instructions given for Bulbophyllum species, nothing dramatic or time consuming.
