Tracey, the only forumite I know that lives in the fire zone is Beetle.
We had a fire 3 miles away, but we're fairly urban & the Fire Dept. STOMPED it out.
Ash, but not so bad. Makes for nice sunsets, very red.
I have friends that lost their horse ranch, last month in the fires, but managed to save the horses & a lot of their belongings. Thankfully, they have kids who live nearby, so they have a place to stay.

    Thanks for asking!

I'm borderline good. Don't live anywhere near the fires. Just thought I'd put that out there. Santa Barbara sure has been hit hard this year. Isn't there a big show coming up around there? Seems like these fires have a way of keeping orchid fanatics out.

I can't imagine living there, the stuff I saw on TV was just horrifying to me, how fast it ate everything in it's path. Man, that is scary stuff.

I know this is a very serious deal, but I have to share this one...

"Of course Oprah's house hasn't burned down. If Oprah's house burned down, God would be so fired." -- Jimmy Kimmel, on the California wildfires that threatened Oprah Winfrey's house in Montecito.

All's well here, in case anybody wondered, although it is a hot sumbitch today.

Must be in the 50's there. I don't know how you stand that heat. It's a pleasant +30 with a refreshing 17 mph breeze out of the north.

    I'm showing a balmy 92F with a dewpoint of 25F, calm wind .
dewpoint was down around 0F the last few days, so the marine layer is attempting
to come back onshore. Better warm than cold.

Nasty hot here, but at least it's not windy! All my orchid buddies through out the state are safe, although a couple had to evacuate. Still, everyone's safe!

Hey Candace, if I get out to near Sacramento can I stay with you?
MJ, I'm with you 26° here at the moment...brr!

Seriously, regarding the fires, my ex boss is in SB at Ganna Walska Lotusland http://www.lotusland.org/ and they had to evacuate all of their computers, documents, etc.

Here's what she had to say: "The fire started six miles from my house and never came close - it tore across the canyons and mountains opposite of where I live, on the Mesa neighborhood of SB. However, the fire came within a few hundred yards of Lotusland, in the canyons We evacuated people who lived on the grounds, and also took out files, computers, and other important stuff. I went back up there in the wee hours of Friday morning and found that Lotusland had been spared, but was cloaked in a thick blanket of smoke. I stayed long enough to secure the grounds (we had opened all the gates so the fire trucks could come in, if needed), and the buildings, and then left - it was far too dangerous to breathe in all the smoke."

    Scary stuff!

You bet, Heather. We've got a spare bedroom. Unfortunately, guests have to share the bathroom upstairs with the teenage monsters.

As for Oprah's house. I seriously doubt Satan would let her home burn down. Since she's the antichrist and all.
